I am now continuing with this paper after some
time. I hadn't
started working on my oun files before writing this paper and I must
apologize to all the people that I criticized about their homepages and
files looking so plain and boring. I'm sorry all you people that I
criticized??? I now know how hard and time
consuming it is to decorate our files. Some people even have pictures
of their car or their family and friends!! That is so neat. I wonder
where they learned how to do that?? It must have taken a lot of time but
it looks very nice. It sort of gives their homepages a personal touch
which some people's do lack. I especially liked Letitia's where it
shows her scuba diving in the waters of Guam!!
The way I look at
it is that it
is the content that is important not how pretty and colorful we can make
our pages. Some people who have all nice and decorated pages take their
files too long to upload and the person going through Netscape does not
want to wait to see a page or file. I know from personal experience that
if someone's page is taking too long to upload then I will just click on
"BACK" and move on to someone else's. You need a lot of spare time or a
computer at home to do all the decorating. I must add that since I've
started this paper, some people have been making changes to their pages
like Cynthia Yap no longer has Animaniacs on her page-now it is Mickey.
Do you want to see it? Click
here . Doesn't it look neat? I think she changed it because it was
taking too long to upload. I think it looks nicer anyway.
From G1 there was a student named Todd Crawford. I
looked
through his files and found some very interesting things in it to read.
He talked about moral and spiritual things relating to traffic psychology
such as tailgating. He says that drivers who are being tailgated are put
under so much stress. He also talks about the things to do to get
tailgaters to back off such as speeding up, pump their brakes, change
lanes, etc.. If you would like to see Todd's
report click on his name. I hate to admit this but to be honest I
will press my brakes pretty hard to get the tailgaters off my butt! At
the same time I am doing this I am swearing at them in my rear view
mirror saying things like "Come on hit me-I need a new car!!". After I
am calmed down I begin to think how stupid I acted and that I would never
want to get from behind-especially on the freeway!! Anyway, I have a
theory when it comes to tailgaters....If they want to get ahead of me
they just have to go around!
Now that I look back, I don't see any moral or spiritual issues
dealing with traffic psychology and Todd states that he doesn't either.
He says that the spiritual part is just relating to God.
I think the reason why I had so much fun with Todd's file was
because I could relate to him in so many ways. He talks about people who
drive for miles with their blinker on and don't even know it until they
want to use it to turn. How stupid they must feel!!! I have an uncle
that is hard of hearing so he can't hear the blinker making the
"clik, clik" sound so he doesn't know that it is on but I really doubt if
all those people who drive with it on are hard of hearing!! It drives me
up the walls that sometimes I will drive next to them and tell them that
their blinker is on!!
He also talks about the use of seatbelts and how he was injured
in an accident and now he will never go anywhere without it on. He
states that seatbelts prevent 50% of deaths in automobile accidents. It
upsets me because my parents don't like to use their seatbelts and even
with the new law they still don't wear them!! I personally don't like
them but I will wear it.
Next I came to Adele
Kimura's file . She made a comment on how lost she was and thought
she was the only one lost but she soom found out that was not true. I
felt so frustrated that everytime I would go to the computer at Keller
Hall I would leave there with a headache. My friends thought that I was
exaggerating but I wasn't. I think I tended to avoid the lab because of
this but I guess it was all psychological because now I have to do so
much work in such short time!! I feel better now that I have read G1 and
G2's reports on how lost they were but I can finally say that I finally
feel comfortable working on the Internet!!
I visited another person in G2 by the name of Braden
Kato. He's in
my psychology 311 group so I wanted to check it out. I found his report
to be interesting because he talked about his driver makeover and he
focused primarily on speeding.
Here are his reasons. As you can see he says that speeding is
dangerous, it arouses law enforcement, it increases wear and tear on
your car, and it won't get you to your destination any earlier
unless you are driving late at night or early morning. I agree with
him because my boyfriend speeds a lot and I keep telling him that
one day he will hit someone or someone will hit him and then he'll
be sorry. It seems like all guys I know speed. It must be an ego
thing or something. Anyway, Braden also shows the readers what kind
of car he use to
drive. Nice looking and it looks like it had power!! Braden also
tells us a few of his to close for call incidents on the freeway
with spinning out to out running cops while racing friends coming
from town. Dangerous!! I'll admit that I speed but I never use to
until I got my car now. I use to drive an old 84 tercel with no
power at all and now I drive and 86 Honda Civic. It is automatic
but it does have power so now that I drive that car I can't help
myself on the road. It feels so good to speed!!
Next I came to Sharla
Supnet's homepage. I was met by Opus the Penguin!! He's too cute.
Anyway, Sharla said that she started to keep a traffic journal of how
she drove. I think this is a good idea for people to do so they can
monitor their driving in order to change what needs to be changed. I
think I should do this because since I dorm here and only drive on the
weekends I feel that my driving has gotten worse!! I tail people, speed,
run stop signs, etc.. My mom can't stand to ride with me because I'm
always cursing the other drivers and trying to get around them. Sharla
also talks about pedestrian traffic which I thought was interesting because
that is what my tpr file is based on. She explains what side of the
sidewalk are people supposed to walk when your heading in a certain
direction.
Finally, I visitd Soliman Valdez. I liked
his name which is why I clicked to him. Anyway,Sol states that he
constantly cuts off people and expects them to be fully aware of his
actions but he can't stand it when someone cuts him off but I don't
think that is very fair. Whenever a driver is doing something wrong he
or she can't expect the other driver to be aware of his or her actions.
On the road, everyone is responsible for their own actions!!
Finally, the last person I visited was Letitia
Lujuan!! Wow! My last
person to visit!! Letitia's
report was too big too view so just scroll down if you want to see
her report!! The one thing that interested me in her report was how she
talked about bicyclists. She says that she has been biking for the past
2 years and that now she has come to respect bicyclists. In the past
she said that she would try to pass them by forcing them to go closer
to the curb!! How scary!! Whenever I see a bicyclist on the road I
always try to go around them!! I'll admit that they are in the way but
they have a right to be on the road. If I'm not mistaken I think it
is illegal for bicyclists to be on the sidewalk. If there is a bike
path then they should be on the road but inside and only inside the
bikepath!! I can't stand it when they are weaving in and out of that
little bike path!! It makes me nervous because if I hit them then I am
immediately at fault!! Letitia also talks about convoying and how it's
easy to daydream while driving. Have you ever been driving and
suddenly ask yourself "How did I get here so fast?" or "I don't
remember passing such and such a place!". If you have been in this
situation it is clear to see that you were daydreaming while driving!!
This has happened to me namy times! This scares me because when I'm
tired and I'm driving home late at night (all the way to Mililani from
town!) I tend to start "nightdreaming" and then I come out of it and
ask myself the same questions that were stated above. I then become
fully aware of myself and turn up the radio super loud and start to
sing. I remember watching a show on OCD (obsession compulsive
disorder) and it was about this girl who had OCD and she insisted that
she hit a kid while driving through her neighborhood and that she would
get out of her car like 70-80 times to make sure there was no body or
blood. Can you imagine!? Sometimes when I daydream I sometimes wonder
if I hit a cat or bird. I wonder if I would even know. By the way, I
did hit a bird the other day but I didn't kill it-I just knocked him
out but then he got back up and started flying again. Have you ever hit
something while driving? I could not go on with life if I had hit
something like a dog or a human being. If I hit a cat it wouldn't bother
me as much because I am not a cat lover but I am a dog lover!!
Since I
live in Mililani I have to go home by way of Kipapa Gulch which is a long
windy road that is dark at night. It's also kind of scary. Anyway, I
have seen many dogs and cats dead on the side of the road and everytime I
see a dog I feel like crying!! I am always the one to call the Humane
Society and tell them to pick up the remainings so people like myself
don't have to see that sort of stuff! I'll never forget the day when our
dog ran away and we couldn't find him anywhere. We were driving up
Kipapa Gulch and I saw this dead dog lying in the middle of the road!!
He was even the same size and color as my dog and I was just freaking
out!! As we got closer to it to my relief it was not my dog but another
one who kind of looked like it. That is why I must say that if you are a
dog owner please get him tags from your vet or Humane Society!! Just a
bit of information: Do not get tags with your dogs name on them because
the people who find your dog can keep him knowing that they already know
his name. It is very hard for someone to keep a dog when the dog already
goes by another name.
I can finally say that my journeys through G1 and G2 are over!! I
had a fun and interesting time looking through people's files and seeing
what they wrote about on different topics. It will be weird and sort of
neat to know that
people in G4 and generations to follow will be looking through our files and
commenting on them!! It will be also neat to know that we are paving the
way for the upcoming generations to look at our files and do their papers
just like G1 and G2 did for us. I must add that I am glad I wasn't part
of G1 because they must have had a hard time doing their files and papers
with nothing to refer to!
summary
Overrall, I had a fun time browsing through G1 and
G2's files. It
was interesting to see the different ways in which people set up their
papers and homepages. For the ones who spent a long time on theirs I
commend you!! It was very easy to see which people came from G1 and G2
because G1's files are not as colorful and there are not as many
pictures. Some people in G2 went wild and the outcome was beautiful
homepages! Just think G6 and G7 will have even more of an
oppurtunity to create beautiful stuff for people to look at. I must
say
that I feel very fortunate to be in a class such as this one where we are
getting first hand knowledge of information that will last us a life
time. Being in a class such as this is good because it is not your basic
class where you sit down and the instructor lectures for one hour to one
hour and fifteen minutes. We are sort of doing a hands on experience by
using these computers. It's good because some people in G2 have told me
that we are lucky because they never had lab time during their class time
so I feel we are lucky in that way as well. I enjoy coming to the lab
and learning new things with others and teaching them stuff they never
knew too. (I'll admit that I hardly taught anyone-everyone was always
teaching me!!). It was a long, tedious, but fun journey through the
different generations and also it was long and hard to learn everything
we needed to in order to do our papers but I think in the end it will pay
off because I think that when employers look at our applications and see
that we know how to use Netscape I think we will an advantage over the
others who don't know how to use it.
