Hawaiian Studies professors oppose Superferry

Even though the State of Hawaii allowed the Hawaii Superferry to operate without an Environmental Impact Statement, Hawaiian Studies faculty members Kealii Gora and Pua Kauila of the University of Hawaii at Manoa oppose the potential harm that the ship could cause to the local marine environment. However, Gov. Linda Lingle said in a statement that "it would not be fair to require the Superferry to complete an EIS when other shipping companies that use state harbors haven't had to undergo the same review."
